Seller: priscus-collectables (2,009) 100%, Location: Banbridge, Down, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 142185240802 BID EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT & CHECK WHEN THIS ITEM ENDS - THANKS FOR LOOKING!WWII Seth Thomas Ships Bell U.S. Maritime Commission bulkhead clock – DA/43B I am looking to sell a rare 1943 WWII era vintage, striking bell clock with a 6" black face that was made for the U.S. Maritime Commission by Seth Thomas. It has a 115 A, 7 Jewel movement which is stamped, Patent Oct 25, 1921 and dated 10-43. This is the equivalent to Chelsea's similar design, both being made to the same WWII military specifications. The mechanism is housed in a very heavy, cast iron deep case covered in black coating and has a screw on bezel which has a maximum diameter of 7 ½” at the rear, and is 3 ¾” deep. The main body which I presume is bronze has a black coating to it, the front door with glass in it seems to be a lighter metal or possibly some type of Bakelite. The clock has been ticking away keeping time and I heard it strike / sound when sitting upright in the position it would hang on the wall, nice sound too. Clock comes with a Key, this is not original to it, I do not believe. CONDITION: This fine clock is in excellent condition and shows only the normal patina of age. It has a movement which is bright and clean inside as photographed and the dial is still in very nice condition with only some slight discoloration to the white areas on the hands, possibly old luminous paint. The case shows some minor marks to the black on the metal and some scoring, the rim or bezel around the glass has some wear to the black coating as does the thumb turn closing bolt. I am sure these parts could be repainted if required. Weight: 3.5Kg unpacked so please note courier costs.PLEASE NOTE that I am selling it as possibly in need a service as I am not an expert in clocks. It is ticking at the minute and hands moving fine, also has sounded.I have included a number of photos and these probably describe the item better than I can and form part of the description.
