World War Two
Royal Air Force FighterCommand
Engine Boost Gauge
from an
RAF Hawker TyphoonFighter-bomber
Dated 1944

Designed by Hawkers and built by Glosters.
the Typhoon's original role was envisagedas a high speed interceptor to replace
the Hurricanes & Spitfires currently in front-line service,

However with an all-metal body built around a Napier power plant,
it soon became obvious after its first flight in 1940 that,
at some 5 tons heavier than the Hurricane it due was to replace,
(and soon armed with cannon & under-wing rockets),
its war-time future was as a front-line ground-attack fighter-bomber.

With the addition of a 'bubble canopy', it excelled in this role,
wreaking havoc & instilling terror in the German forces on the receiving end
right across North West Europe after D-Day June 6th 1944
with its myriad strafing sorties of enemytroop dispositions
and military convoys by road & rail.

It was eventually replaced by the HawkerTempest which, with a thinner wing
was more suited to the original interceptor role enviaged for the Typhoon,
and so with some 3,317Hawker Typhoons finally built by war's end in 1945,
all 'Tiffys' wereremoved from front-line service
and by October 1945 no Typhoons were left in RAF operational service.

Because of their actions across Europe,
Typhoons achieved more fame with the French & Dutch populace
thanthe RAF's Spitfires did Hurricane with the British.
here on the Home Front.

Produced by K D G Instruments Ltd and marked:
MK III N
6A/1867 anddated 1944
(with the Air Ministry logo too the rear)
this good-looking gauge, measuring approx 2.5" x 2.5" x 3"
is in a great surviving 'returned to stores' order
and as is sold as an original war-time aviation artefact only
and not a tested item of flight equipment.

A fantasticcockpit souvenir from the RAF's iconic ground-attack fighter-bomber of WW-II.
