Seller: bigbiffo-uk (225) 100%, Location: Newtown, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 262731353714 A family clock believed purchased in Paris in November 1882 as a life gift for my Grandmother by her Father,Claude Petit (Great Grandfather) a wine exporter from Bordeaux. The clock for many years carried a printed label which read Renard Freres,Horloger,Ebiniste,Paris the label sadly faded and eventually disintegrated,I`ve tried to trace these brothers history to no avail. The Clock is in solid mahogany ornately hand carved and in superb condition after years of hard waxing and great care having survived the ravages of two world wars, the photographs should show the clock`s condition without a description from me. The bezel is in brass and holds an unmarked bevel edged convex lens, the bezel closes tightly without any drop and the hinge is solid, the dial is ceramic with a minute chip to the going train winding hole,(this was damage caused in the blitz on Cardiff in the 1940`s) The Roman numerals are all in good order without any rubbing,a pair of blued steel spade hands point out the time, both are in perfect condition. The door to the movement is tarnished brass and has it`s original red dust cover inside, the hinge is perfect and the door closes tightly against dust without any drop to it. The movement was professionally stripped and totally overhauled in 2015 by a Fellow of the Horological Institute, the movement was fitted with two new springs and was cleaned and polished, the pendulum is original with it`s matching number on the back plate of the movement,a quiet clock that strikes the hours and once on the half hour by means of a chime coil, the key is original as far as I know, the clock keeps excellent time which I compare with an Elliott long case I own,the whole issue stands on four wooden bun feet with furniture protectors fitted. No family left who has any interest in the family clocks or the history that goes with them hence the sale, this lovely old clock is quiet in manner and sound,it would enhance any household, period or modern, with it`s soft strike and restful metrical tempo. Measurements are appx.:- height 295 mm...width 265 mm...depth 150 mm. I`m selling the clock as collection only due to it`s age and value but I`m willing to deliver the clock within 50 miles of my Mid Wales home if the full price is reached. Sorry no overseas buyers. Any questions, measurements or further photographs please email me...thank you. Age: c.1880, Type: French Mantel Clock, Sub-Type: Mantel Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: French, Material: Mahogany, Features: 8-Day
