ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by M.J. Starling from an original study by John Preston Neale. John Preston Neale (1780–1847) was an English architectural and landscape draughtsman. Much of his work was drawn, although he produced the occasional watercolour or oil painting. His drawings were used on a regular basis by engravers. A major work, the Views of the seats, Mansions, Castles, etc. of Noblemen and Gentlemen in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland was published in 6 volumes between 1819-23 (here offered in a slightly later re-issue).

TYPE: Antique steel plate engraving printed on paper.
VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Littlebourne is a village and civil parish 4 miles east of Canterbury in Kent. Lee Prior was in Littlebourne Kent but was sadly later demolished. The house was designed by James Wyatt (1746-1813), the premier architect and designer of late Georgian Britain, later altered by Sir Gilbert Scott (c. 1865) and demolished in 1955.
