Item:233587241603This is an original 1835 map of the UNITED STATES EXHIBITING THE RAILROADS & CANALS, from Bradford's copper engraved, hand colored areas overlaid with hand colored boundaries (more straight than following rivers), shows Erie, Chesapeake & Ohio, Penn, Wabash & Erie and other canals, "Explanation" for Railroads shows those "Chartered", "Making", and "Finished" shows Illinois & Michigan R.R. and Ship Canal as "chartered" 1822 and New York and Erie RR 1832, and as "Finished" Charlestown & Hamburg RR (South Carolina) completed 1833, and Tuscunbia to Decatur RR (Alabama) completed 1834. A separate sheet has a written description of UNITED STATES on one side and reverse side CANALS AND RAILROADS from Bradford's 1838 An Illustrated Atlas Geographical, Statistical and Historical of the United States and Adjacent Countries. US Political divisions has Arkansas (1836) and references to amounts on Jan 1, 1834, with Tables for Population and Slaves, for every state, territory and DC, listed every 10 years from 1790 to 1830, and with commerce and navigation, revenue, public lands army and navy, government and history described. Reverse side of Canals and Railroads list for Canals - name, length, course, locks, aqueducts, bridges, tunnels, elevations and costs for United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Russia; and for Railroads list for United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany. Size of map is 7 1/2 by 9 3/4 inches. Map will be mailed flat with cardboard backing and plastic. Shipping in the USA only.
