Gronow is best remembered for his lively and entertaining volumes concerning Almack's, social clubs and sites for the hectic social season for the aristocracy that were established throughout the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries. Despite his status as an officer (that would usually prohibit such admittance) Gronow was a regular attendant of Almack's and recounted his personal experiences and various second-hand stories and anecdotes of persons within a four volume series of 'Reminiscences': 'Reminiscences of Captain Gronow', 1862 'Recollections and Anecdotes, being a Second Series of Reminiscences, by Captain R. H. Gronow', 1863 'Celebrities of London and Paris, being a Third Series of Reminiscences and Anecdotes', 1865 'Captain Gronow's Last Recollections, being the Fourth and Final Series of his Reminiscences and Anecdotes', 1866.
