Keeping very good time.— New mainspring fitted.— New crystal fitted.— Case ultrasonically cleaned.— Brand new good-quality strap.— Supplied in a see-through presentation/gift box with operating instructions and tips on caring for the watch. Please be aware that vintage mechanical watches do not as accurate as modern quartz watches and are NOT waterproof. SIZE 24mm wide, excluding crown x 35mm total length. Vintage watches of this era were generally made smaller than those of today and if you are used to large, modern watches, this may seem small for a man by modern standards. It could also be worn by a woman. Please study the following detailed measurements and compare them on a ruler so that you understand its size before purchasing. Width: 24mm, excluding crown.Length: 35mm total length to tips of the lugs.Thickness: 9mm, including crystal.Viewable dial/crystal: 20mm x 23mm.Strap: 19mm wide, tapering slightly to 16mm at the buckle. Wrist fitting: The watch should fit a wrist size of between 160mm and 185mm.The above dimensions are approximate. CASE 10k Yellow Gold Filled in very good overall condition The case is 10k gold-filled two-part with snap-on back and in good overall used condition. It shows the usual light surface scratches and signs of use one would expect of a watch over 70 years old, plus a hint of wear to the case-back corners and lugs seen on very close scrutiny. There are no dents, dings or other notable flaws. Please study the photos. The outside back is stamped with the gold content 10k GOLD FILLED and the inside signed G/P (for Girard Perregaux). The case has been ultrasonically cleaned to remove decades of ingrained dirt from all the crevices and to sanitise for the new owner. The plexiglass crystal is a brand-new replacement, just fitted and the brand-new, black textured half-padded leather strap completes the restoration of this beautiful watch. DIAL The champagne dial is the epitomy of understated elegance and appears to be original and in nice overall condition. There is some natural patina and a few signs of age here and there, but nothing that offends the naked eye. The applied gold markers and hands are bright and shining and the GIRARD PERREGAUX 1791 signature is in perfect condition. Most watch collectors would agree that an original unrestored dial will add notable value compared with a dial that has been refinished. MOVEMENT17-jewel Swiss-made Girard Perregaux calibre 86 high-grade mechanical hand-wound movement SERVICED, CLEANED AND OILED on 3rd April 2019 to include a new mainspring. It is running strongly, keeping very good time* (please see note below about vintage watch timekeeping). This Girard Perregaux Swiss-made hand-wound mechanical movement has 17 jewels, some of which are set within solid gold castings – one indicator of its high quality. It is signed GIRARD PERREGAUX & CO. 17 SEVENTEEN JEWELS ADJUSTED SWISS 86 AE 114. For your further reassurance and added value, this movement has just been FULLY SERVICED, CLEANED AND OILED – see photo of stripped and cleaned parts. The movement has been completely disassembled and all components ultrasonically cleaned and inspected for damage or noticeable wear. It was then carefully rebuilt with a brand-new mainspring wound into the barrel, lubricated throughout with the finest Swiss Moebius watch oils and grease, demagnetised and the timekeeping regulated, before undergoing testing prior to listing for sale. The watch winds and sets smoothly with all functions working correctly, and is keeping very good time* (see note below about vintage watch timekeeping). In order to keep vintage mechanical watches running as reliably as possible, servicing is recommended on a periodic basis and the cost of this can easily be £150 and is often much more. Please factor this in the value of this watch if you are interested in purchasing. Please note that this watch will require winding fully once every 24 hours if you intend wearing it and occasional winding (every week or two) is recommended when not being worn. I always enclose with my vintage watches a printed sheet of operating instructions and general tips on caring for the watch. *A general note on vintage watch timekeeping and reliabilityPlease do not expect quartz accuracy from any vintage mechanical watch. The accepted timekeeping tolerances for a brand new watch back in the 1940s and 50s was +/- 3 minutes a day and, unless otherwise stated, my watches should still keep time to within these parameters. Most perform significantly better. Timekeeping can vary by a few seconds a day according to the angle a watch is being worn on the wrist — for instance, when it is dial-up or on its side. Also, a fully-wound mainspring delivers more power than when it has almost wound down, so timekeeping will likely be different on a full wind compared with, say, 24 hours later. If you wish to check timekeeping, it is recommended to do this over a 24 hour period. Wind your watch fully once only first thing in the morning, wear it all day and then place dial-up on on a bedside table or desk overnight. Check the timekeeping first thing the next morning and this will provide a good indication of its average timekeeping over 24 hours, taking into account the various positions it experiences overall, together with slight changing of power of the mainspring as it winds down. Bearing in mind what is generally deemed acceptable for a vintage watch of this age, if timekeeping does need regulating, please do not attempt this yourself – take the watch to a local watchmaker. Cleaning and freshly oiling a vintage watch provides it with the best chance of optimum performance, but does not imply that the movement is in ‘as-new’ condition. These watches are many decades old and, whilst during servicing each component is carefully checked to ensure nothing is broken or damaged, there could still be some slight wear or other age-related factors which might affect long-term reliability. Even if serviced, the age and complex nature of these watches means that ongoing maintenance might be required by a local watchmaker. For this reason, I am unable to provide any warranty beyond the standard 14-day return period. PAYMENTPAYMENT BY PAYPAL IS REQUESTED WITHIN 24 HOURS PLEASE. Many hours of work goes in to overhauling and restoring these beautiful old timepieces and I try very hard to get things right. The very nature of these very old, delicate mechanisms means that once in a while things may go wrong and, if it is within 14 days of purchase, I guarantee to put it right at my expense or provide a no-quibble refund if you prefer. I regret that after this 14-day period I am unable to offer any ongoing warranty, but will always be only too pleased to provide guidance and advice on the upkeep of your watch if ever required. Please do not leave negative or neutral feedback without giving me the opportunity to put things right. Just contact me as soon as possible, but within 14 days of receipt, please. I warrant that the watch you purchase will be as described when you receive it. Please note that photographs also form part of the description. Alternatively, I will provide you with the option of repair at my expense if the watch has been damaged in transit and is repairable within a reasonable timeframe. PLEASE NOTE: I am unable to offer ongoing watch servicing and repairs beyond the 14-day warranty period and therefore recommend sourcing a local, reputable watchmaker who can help with your watch if and when required. POSTAGE REFUNDS – IF there is a fault with the watch when received; or it develops a problem within 14 days; or I have made a mistake in the listing and it is therefore not as described, I will refund the full purchase price, plus original shipping AND your return postage cost. – IF there is a fault with the watch, notified within 14 days of receipt, and if possible you would prefer it to be repaired, I will bear all additional postage costs involved. – IF a return is due to buyer remorse – for instance, you do not like it when received, I will refund the purchase price only, less the original shipping cost. Return postage to me is to be paid by the buyer. Please be sure to read the whole description, taking particular note of dimensions, etc. and study all close-up photographs. I REGRET THAT I AM UNABLE TO OFFER RETURNS UNLESS NOTIFIED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF RECEIPT. These watches are many decades old and, even if they have been serviced, can still develop faults at any time – just like anything else old and mechanical. As a vintage watch owner, I always recommend sourcing a local watchmaker that can provide you with ongoing service and repairs as and when required. Whilst I will always be happy to rectify any problem occurring within 14 days of delivery, I cannot personally offer an ongoing repair service after that time. However, I will always be willing to provide advice if there is ever a problem, so feel free to contact me if you need to. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS I WILL BE VERY HAPPY TO HELP.
