Seller: alexandersallsorts (1,098) 100%, Location: Abergele, Ships to: GB, Item: 274183619684 Rare Bentima Art Deco 8 Day Clock Fitted with Perivale Platform Escapement - Post 1937 Britannia Stamp - FWO & Chimes. The clock is a good timekeeper. It was sourced as a known runner and timekeeper, as a matter of course we removed the Perivale movement and solvent cleaned it followed by an oil with a synthetic oil. Please note we did not strip down the movement to clean it. Winding gears have been greased with good quality graphite grease. The clock was found to run for 14 days between winds and in this time it didn't stop once. The platform escapement still features it's clear plastic protection cover, this is not common to see many similar clocks now just have an open movement with the two screw holes for the cover sitting as evidence of a lost cover. Therefore the platform escapement looks very clean as does the whole visible areas of the movement seen. The clock has a nice quiet tick rather fast, the chimes every hour/half have a nice quaint tone and work correctly. The clock appears to date approx 1950 not 100% certain, the Perivale movement was made in Greenford, Middx, England, it's Britannia mark is very clear and indicates the clock was made post 1937 following Bentima's buying out of the company. So the movement is 'bought as seen' but it looks very good during it's clean and appears to have no faults. The case is nice wood and has been polished, it has several light marks which may clean off with more wax. Case has two areas of wear from opening the glass these again may improve with more polish. One foot at the rear appears to have has a tiny wood chip touched up/coloured.Brass bezel is a rich yellow colour with some air corrosion, nice undamaged crystal glass.White enamel dial with gold and silver detail, marked Bentima MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN. Comes with original key marked Perivale, back door has original sticker informing the owner to get the platform escapement serviced by a jeweller. A rare clock, quite sophisticated for the 1950's, it will work on any surface doesn't have to be level at all (and keep time) which is something different for a vintage mechanical clock have seen the sold as suitable for use on boats such as canal boats etc. Home collection would be preferable but we''ll post well padded. 21cms in height.22.5cms in height.9.5cms in depth15.5cms clock face diameter Condition: The clock is a good timekeeper, and 8 Day Runner. Was sourced as a known runner and timekeeper, as a matter of course we removed the Perivale movement and solvent cleaned it followed by an oil with a synthetic oil. Please note we did not strip down the movement to clean it.It runs for 14 days between winds., Age: Antique, Post-1900, Material: Wood/Metal/Glass, Type: Mantel/ Carriage Clock, Features: 8-Day, Sub-Type: Mantel Clock, Brand: Bentima, Clock Type: Mantel/ Carriage Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Antique/ Vintage, Clock Sub-Type: Mantel Clock
