Please wait for my combined invoice before you pay. From the RAMBAUT family collection of items I am currently selling... this chap Bertrand Ramsey Robson Rambaut was a Major in the Royal Artillery and the family were from Baythorne Park in Essex as well as Templeville Killiney in Ireland and other residences along the way... their items span many years from early Georgian thru the Victorian period and to just after the second world war.... they were related to the Robson - Tuke - Lightowler - Hautenville families along the way.. so please do check out my other listings as Ive got TONS of their items.. Bertrand Rambaut was always sending items home whilst on his military campaigns and I have boxes and boxes of interesting items listed ..many with little green lables with the find spots or who gave them the items and dated etc.. really fascinating. I still do not know what this item is for really.. so if someone could enlighten me I will adjust the price accordingly. This is an antique tape " like " measure that is very unusual. I say tape " like " because it is a very fine gold wire bullion tape inside with NO measurements. It is 69 inch long or so and has this small bent bit of wire attached to the end loop. It reminds me of some sort of measure device used by an OFFICER that is about to set his men on a parade.. so they are all a certain distance apart. Or something used for a similar drill practice....measuring the distance between the belt and the top of your rifle say. It is a MYSTERY pub quiz item. It has a weird 3 tier bar section stuck out as well ...these sections do not fold bar back in.. its a solid bar in 3 different sizes. It may well fit into a belt fitting on a waist band or it may fit into a wooden stick. The tape inside does not have any measuring increments on it, it is just a pretty bit of 69 inch gilt ribbon. Maker's mark on the outside is Chesterman, Sheffield. England with their trade mark in the centre. The brass has been gilt.. and it looks a very posh bit of kit that an officer would use. It is in good collectable condition with some signs of age and use wear. There are some heavy surface scuffs, especially on the base. It measures approx. 45mm in diameter on the base but approx. 78mm in length including the stuck out rod part x 25mm deep. The fine gold wire bullion tape is 6mm wide. See the photographs which do enlarge which form part of the visual description. Please see close up pictures for more detail. The item(s) are shown next to an English 1 penny which is 20mm (11/16th's inch) diameter for scale. If you have any questions, please contact me via ebay messages... go to OTHER question.
