The Massachusetts State Quarter was the first state quarter to be released in the year 2000. The Maryland State Quarter's reverse design highlights the Maryland Statehouse, the Statehouse is surrounded by White Oak Leaf Clusters and the nickname The Old Line State. Other inscriptions included are “Maryland,” “1788,” “2000,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The Maryland State Quarter was the second state quarter to be released in 2000. The South Carolina State Quarter's reverse design includes the outline of South Carolina in addition to key state symbols – a palmetto tree (state tree), the Carolina Wren (state bird), and the Yellow Jessamine (state flower). Additional inscriptions include “South Carolina,” “2000,” “1788,” “The Palmetto State,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The South Carolina State Quarter was the third state quarter to be released in 2000. The New Hampshire State Quarter's reverse design honors one of the state’s most unique natural attractions “The Old Man of the Mountain.” The state motto “Live free or die,” and nine stars signifying the fact that New Hampshire was the ninth state to ratify the Constitution. The New Hampshire State Quarter was the fourth state quarter to be released in 2000. The Virginia State Quarter's reverse design honors Jamestown, Virginia. This was our nation’s first permanent English Settlement. The selected design features the three ships; Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery. These ships brought the first English Settlers to Jamestown. The Virginia State Quarter was the fifth state quarter to be released in 2000. The 2000 Sacagawea Dollar obverse design honors Sacagawea, the Shoshone woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark on their expedition to the Pacific Ocean. The designer of the obverse of this coin was sculptor Glenna Goodcare. The image features Sacagawea with her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, who was fifty days old when the expedition departed Fort Mandan. The reverse of the coin was designed by Thomas D. Rogers. It features a soaring eagle surrounded by seventeen stars representing the union members in 1804, at the start of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The remainder of the coins in this set are the Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Lincoln Cent, and the Kennedy Half Dollar. The designs featured on these coins are classic and timeless.
