Seller: shipsrelics (3,005) 100%, Location: Dovercourt, Essex, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 324105510544 This 3 train Sonnery Striking Longcase comes with an amazing amount of paperwork, invoices, reports, plans, all from very reputable clock men, and I name a few : T. G. F. Hardy of Hinton St. George, Somerset. Nicholas C. Woods of Diss, Norfolk. E. T. Manson of Woodbridge, Suffolk. All have carried out various works over the last 40 years or so on this clock, - the owner was very fussy indeed. I acquired this desirable clock some months ago after dealing with the family on other matters. After the owner passed away the family asked me to purchase this clock and other items from the deceased property as they were worried for the contents in an unoccupied country house. When I arrived at the house I was immediately struck by the size of this Longcase....90 inches tall, it was up to the very ceiling and when I removed the hood I noticed that the brass finials were indeed at one time ball & spire finials but to fit in the house the spires had been removed at some time. When I opened the trunk door I was greeted by the three heavy lead weights which were also signed as to their correct positioning. I gently moved the pendulum to see if it indeed was in working order as this clock, I was told, had been left for a number of years just as I found it and I was amazed to hear the movement ticking correctly. I left the movement working whilst I inspected the other items for disposal and was drawn back to the clock when I heard the Sonnery strike begin. I then moved the minute hand to half past the hour, then to 3 quarters of the hour, then to the 12 o'clock position. I heard the pick up, but it did not strike the actual hour. I went round again and still it did not strike the hours, so a problem with the rack I presume. Comes with pendulum and key. The case is Mahogany and there is no trace of worm infestation or rot and indeed a local restoration company, Forge Studios, carried out various repairs in 2001 to the tune of 572 pounds, ( invoice enclosed ). The size is 90 inches by 19 inches by 9 inches and is raised on four Mahogany turned feet, trunk door locks, key present, glass is intact and please note the hood has glass panels where sometimes you would find sound frets. In 1991 it had a restoration by Hardy of Somerset which cost 1,760 pounds, ( invoice enclosed ) and this company also carried our further work in the years to come. Edward Manson of Woodbridge, Suffolk, carried out an inspection in 1993 and valued the clock at 3,750 pounds for insurance purposes, ( certificate enclosed ) and in all the documents they state the Thomas Rose clock as circa 1780. As I am retired I think it best that I dispose of the clock to the trade rather than keep it. I think it's an important Longcase that need perhaps further work. As I said, the going is good but the strike is not working. I have done nothing to the clock apart from cleaning the dust off and as you can see it's a very nice presentable rare Longcase of good proportions. I am starting it off at a fair trade price and have included a facility to make a fair offer to me. If you wish any more information or would like to view the clock I am in Dovercourt, Essex. Please contact me through ebay messaging service. Needless to say the buyer would have to make their own arrangements for collection after sale end. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER ITEMS LISTED ON EBAY.
