Quaint... An Authentic Forest Cottage... The Apple Store really was the apple store and cider house for the farmhouse, completely refurbished and restored in 2012 as a self-contained garden flat. We've kept many original features like the big cast iron roll-top claw foot bath, the Belfast sink and Aga. Furniture like the big antique pine farmhouse table, the chest of drawers and the antique brass bed have been in the family for many years - you are coming to a home, not a utility holiday let. Vintage jam pots sit side by side with artisan Mary Rose Young ceramics, fresh fruit and home-made preserves and jams. Outside, your view is across the tops of the trees in the apple orchard to the waterfall and Gypsy wagon. There's plenty of room for two cars on the drive immediately outside, and a small garden (an ideal dog en suite for late night/early morning runs) with a BBQ, table and chairs. Our friendly hens and ducks peck around the door and the Forest of Dean is "on the doorstep" just a short walk away. 43square miles of The Forest is on the doorstep, with a footpath from the cottage to the woods. Visit the famous Sculpture Trail, test your skills at Go Ape, explore Norman castles, ride the Forest GWR steam train or wonder at the Clearwell caves... the beautiful Wye Valley and Tintern are a short drive away, and for movie-buffs the film locations for Star Wars and Harry Potter and numerous TV dramas are close by (our Gypsy Wagon stars in a recent film!) If you're looking for a quiet hideaway for your special day, look no farther... The property was charming and rustic with lots of character. Mary was a fabulous host and made us feel very welcome, and had lots of tips for where we could visit or go on walks. The property has a lot of land to explore and a lovely old fashioned caravan with a fire pit outside, which, if the the weather was better, we could have hung out in, and watched the waterfall. There are some nearby walks through the forest, or after a short drive away, around a beautiful lake Idyllic setting with 1st class hospitality! Left on Sep 3, 2016 for a stay in Aug 2016 This is our second trip to The Apple Store (our first being in February 2015) so we were excited to come back in summer to appreciate the beautiful setting and surroundings of the cottage in the sunshine. This is a little gem of a place where you can unwind, sit on the lovely terrace for some al fresco dining with the sound of the waterfall and river as a perfect soundtrack. There's even a pizza oven and a gas barbecue in the garden. The cottage is really comfortable with lovely touches like the cast iron rolled top bath, the AGA oven and with everything you need, a little home from home and the most comfortable of beds (never slept as soundly before as I have here). Mary is the perfect host, with the warmest of welcomes and hospitality that is second to none. She is genuinely one of the nicest people you could wish to meet and I enjoyed our lovely chats, nothing is too much trouble for her. I would definitely recommend her home cooking. Such a lovely touch to have freshly baked warm bread rolls and a selection of pastries, expertly baked by Mary, delivered to your doorstep every morning for breakfast - it's a good job there are such beautiful walks in the Forest of Dean on the doorstep!! We took freshly picked apples, raspberries and blackberries from the cottage garden with us on our picnic to the stunning lake at Mallards Pike, literally up the road from the cottage. The information in the cottage on local walks and places of interest was invaluable. Our dog Blossom loved it here and made good friends with Butt the dog. Mary even looked in on our dog for us while we went out for the evening to give her a cuddle to settle her. The place is just so idyllic, that we didn't want to leave and actually ended up staying for 7 nights instead of the 4 nights we booked. We are going home feeling relaxed and rested and appreciative of the late checkout so Blossom can have a final swim in the lake and a walk in the forest before setting off for home At the bottom of the garden by the side of the waterfall is a beautiful gypsy caravan that we had a look inside and if off grid glamping is your thing (we prefer our home comforts) then you couldn't pick a more beautiful location. Can't wait to come back in autumn! M&B + Blossom Birmingham, UK The Apple Store Thank you so much for a lovely relaxing stay. It was so kind of you to provide the fresh breads and pastries and Gluten-free treats - they were delicious and much appreciated, thank you! Heading home feeling very well rested, just what we needed. Thank you. L&M (Leicestershire) Aug 2016 The Apple Store Thank you so much for a wonderful short break. I don't think we have ever had a more welcoming host and we have been pleasantly surprised by how much there is to do in the area. We will definitely recommend you to our friends and family... Thank you for our amazing stay at The Apple Store. It was probably the most welcoming holiday we've ever been on! The pastries in the morning were fabulous. You were very helpful and it really helped us to know where the best places were. The facilities were extremely inviting and we would definitely recommend to friends and family.
