The Bakers were a well known family of clockmakers and have a chapter dedicated to them "The Bakers of Maidstone & Malling Town" in Michael Pearson's "Kent Clocks & Clockmakers". The main features are as follows: This clock is in excellent original condition and is NOT a marriage. The movement is original to the case.The oak case has excellent patina, it has little ornamentation and is typical of the maker, with giltwood capitols.The movement is of high quality with heavy brass plates and solid pillars (see pictures). It has had a recent service.Attractive arched silvered 11.5" dial, nicely engraved and good condition. The date dial is not connected. Impressive height and size, probably made for a Georgian house of which there are many in West Malling.Height 87", Width at Hood 21", Width at base 20", Depth 11".The base has been modified with a double plinth which is a common feature of a clock of this age.Full length trunk door complete with lock and key.Complete with pendulum, original cast iron weights, old wavy glass to hood, and original winding key.Running well to time, can be viewed running at my home in Tonbridge.
