A 17th Century Joined Oak Press / Court Cupboard Measuring approximately 51" x 52 1/2" x 21" (width, height, depth) A rare cupboard thought to originate from the Bradford region of West Yorkshire. Raised on typical molded stile feet and with rich, dark patina throughout. The pretty foliate carved frieze with 'acorn' pendants protruding over top cupboard, the central panel with excellent lozenge & flowerhead carved panel, the doors with most unusual geometric pattern. The large 3 panel central door of the lower stage is decorated with further lozenge carvings thought to be synonymous with the West Yorkshire region, the initials M.F. and the date 1657 The side panels with 3 flower-heads in roundels over a matted ground are thought to be a later addition. All interior and backboards are present and appear to be original. Description     A 17th Century Joined Oak Press / Court Cupboard Measuring approximately 51" x 52 1/2" x 21" (width, height, depth) A rare cupboard of relatively small proportions thought to originate from the Bradford / Halifax region of West Yorkshire. Raised on typical molded stile feet and with rich, dark patina throughout. The pretty foliate carved frieze with inverted 'acorn' pendants,  the central panel with attractive lozenge & flowerhead carved panel flanked by doors decorated with most unusual geometric pattern. The large 3 panel central door of the lower stage with further lozenge carvings thought to be synonymous with the West Yorkshire region, the initials M.F. and the date 1657 The side panels with 3 flower-heads in roundels over a matted ground are thought to be a later addition. The outer central shelf is cut to incorporate an interesting  'secret' compartment running underneath the upper stage. The early newspaper cutting can be found on the back of the slide out panel. All interior and backboards are present and appear to be original.
