Alstroemeria is a group of flowering perennials with upright and mounding growth habits, producing large flowers in masses throughout spring and summer. Colorita Kate is a new variety that will simply brighten up any garden with its exceptional bright flowering performance. Also known as the Peruvian Lily, this is a low maintenance small plant suitable for containers. Its dramatic flowers show off vibrant colours and attract hummingbirds.
Colorita Kate will produce masses of deep red flowers from late spring to late summer, sometimes through the autumn. It spreads through a tuberous rooting system that requires protection in winter. It forms a compact mound of dark green leaves that provide a contrasting background for the large flowers. The branches of Kate are densely packed with leaves that add stunning colours on a sunny day.
This Peruvian Lily prefers shade in afternoon, even though it can perform in full sun. Plant it in a well-drained soil at a location that receives morning sun. The blooms are healthy when the soil is moist. Avoid dry soil as the flowers will fade away in dry conditions. At the same time make sure the soil is not too wet, otherwise, the roots will rot.
Colorita Kate will reach a height of 2-3 feet at maturity. Feed the plant with a general-purpose fertilizer in spring. To enhance new blooms, pull the stems before the flowers start seeding. One can always use shears for cutting but pulling the stems is healthier.
Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. Herbaceous plants die back below the soil in the Winter and may be supplied in their dormant state during this time. Fresh growth will be seen the following Spring.
