X 3 Authentic Johnson Bros England - Indian Tree - Dinner Plates 8.5" Medium Size
Johnson Bros Indian Tree is a lovely example of the Indian Tree design which was produced prolifically with variations by many different potteries, the earliest of which was in 1809 by the Caolport Company in the Staffordshire District of England.
Johnson Bros was founded by Frederick and Alfred Johnson in the year 1883.
These were a favorite on the London High Street during the early to mid-1800s. During the late Victorian era, it became popular in the United States as well. While Indian Tree pottery is still being produced today by some companies, most major manufacturers discontinued production during the mid-1900s. Therefore, this pottery pattern is considered a rare find, particularly if it is a piece from the 1800s in good to excellent condition. Beautiful Georgian/Victorian design.
The fanciful Indian Tree patterned design is set apart from other ceramic designs by its botanical representation of a tree with blooming pink, red, blue, green, orange, or yellow blossoms against a white, bone, or cream background. There are also two stamped geometric patterns around the outer diameter and the interior center of the plate or saucer. Made using IronStone Ceramic.
Condition:
All 3 plates are in excellent condition with the exception of extremley minimal shelf wear. This is very common due to their age. Plates have authentic Johnson Bros stamp/markings. Please see pictures for a more accurate representation.
