The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.If we start with the hood, this has a a lovely delicate swan neck pediment with pretty dentile work below. The swan necks are finished with turned pateras. Turned Corinthian columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. To the rear are straight back splats with a moulding detail. If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely full length door which has a pretty shaped escutcheon and is complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. The front corners are canted and finished with exquisite blind fretwork.The base is raised on a shaped plinth.The dial has the four corners adorned with the most exquisite spandrels. The arch contains a boss with the makers name with makers name of 'Jos Atkinson, Gateshead'. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals with Arabic Numerals above. The centre of the dial is set out with the centre date calendar which is a lovely rare feature and is superbly engraved with flowers. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted hands.Joseph Atkinson, Gateshead is listed in 'CLOCKMAKERS OF NORTHUMBERLAND AND DURHAM by KEITH BATES' :'Atkinson, Joseph. b 1752 - 1814 d. Gateshead Clock & Watch maker on Battle (Bottle) Bank 1790 - 95 and at Low Church Street 1798 - 1804'. There is a large write up on him in this book and details of the records of four of the cocks he made.The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is immaculately clean.DIMENSIONS: The approximate dimensions are: - 88.75 inches high - 23 inches across the widest part of the hood - 15 inches across the trunk - 19.75 inches across the widest part of the base.As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely slim proportions.CONDITION:The clock is in wonderful condition. The movement is lovely and clean and in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced.
