The dial is signed 'GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS CO LTD 112 REGENT STREET LONDON. W.' The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.If we start with the hood, this has a superb arched top which incorporates a lovely deep moulding. Full turned columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. The sides to the door have lovely fretted panels lined in red fabric.If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped full length door which has a nicely shaped edge. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. The base has a lovely shaped applied panel.The clock is then raised on a pretty shaped plinth.The dial has a boss to the arch engraved 'Tempus Fugit' which is Latin for 'Time Flys'. Also to the bottom of the center of the dial is engraved with the makers name 'GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS CO LTD 112 REGENT STREET LONDON. W.', has the four corners adorned with the most exquisite spandrels. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals with Arabic Numerals above. There is a subsidiary second dial and a date aperture. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is immaculately clean.The Goldsmiths & Silversmith Company was registered on 27 May 1898 and we have the following information :'The firm was established in 1880 by William Gibson (d. 1913) and John Lawrence Langman (1846-1928). The firm was active at 112 Regent Street, London acquiring the premises previously used by John Joseph Mechi. In 1893 the firm absorbed The Goldsmiths' Alliance Ltd (late A.B. Savory & Sons) and in 1898 became the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd being active as jewellers, dealers in diamonds and precious stones, silversmiths,electroplaters and watch and clock makers. In 1952 Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd was amalgamated with Garrard & Co Ltd. The firm participated to a number of national and international exhibitions, as Indian and Colonial Exhibition (London, 1886), Paris (1889), Chicago (1893), California (1894), Paris (1900) and Franco-British Exhibition (London, 1908). The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co was active with manufactories at Newcastle Place, Clerkenwell; Regent Works, Sheffield and Rue St George, Paris and as retailer of items supplied by various British gold and silver manufacturers (Martin Hall & Co Ltd, W&G Sissons, Wakely & Wheeler, William Comyns, Harrison Brothers & Howson, etc.) ' DIMENSIONS: The approximate dimensions are: - 85.75 inches / 218 cm high to top of clock - 18 inches / 46 cm across the widest part of the hood - 13.75 inches / 35 cm across the trunk - 19.25 inches / 49 cm across the widest part of the base.As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely slim proportions.
