Gorgeous Victorian Silver Filigree Tussie Mussie Bridal Bouquet Posey Holder
Presented is a beautiful Victorian silver tussie mussie, or posey holder. This is an American piece, dating to around the 1850s-1880s. The tussie mussie is done in the form of a flower, with fabulous silver filigree work in each 'petal' depicting clustes of grapes, vines and leaves. The quality of the decoration is exceptional, with fine hand engraved texturing and detailing on the grape leaves and the leaves of the overall 'flower' design. The handle is likewise finely engraved with a floral design and a stippled texture. The posey holder has a little pin on a short chain, for securing a small bouquet by slipping it through the filigree work of the side.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is a loss to the vine decoration at the top of one of the panels, but this is hard to notice in the overall intricacy of the filigree work. Otherwise there are no breaks and no repairs.
This piece is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least coin (900) purity silver.
This piece is about 6 5/8 inches long.
This piece weighs 44 grams or 1.6 regular ounces.
