Here is a superbly detailed antique Victorian gilt brass or bronze gothic casket depicting medieval style scenes on all sides and the lid. This is of a larger size than the more frequently seen medieval style caskets.

The scenes seem to depict scenes of medieval life, one panel shows two knights fighting, there is a scene of a damsel being abducted or rescued from a castle !, three with kneeling figures and what appears to me a madonna and child on the lid.

Each of the sides have a different scene and there are various figures..

This particular item bears the makers mark for the company E. S. (which is the company of Erhardt and Sohn) makers of brass items in Germnay in the 19th century. The casket bears a registred design mark underneath its base.

The interior base of this casket is unlined.

This is a very inticately detailed box. Both thin side panels of the lid are missing, as is the original lock plate. The casket does function and display well as it is however.

The casket has the right amount of patina, with what appears to be a gilt finish, slightly rubbed in places and with a few scattered small areas of paint smattering.

The box measures about 8.7 inches (22 cm) long, 3.6 inches (9.2 cm) high and 4.6 inches (11.7 cm) wide.
