Item:392441751493Antique Oak Pier Cabinet / Hall Cupboard / Bookcase - Circa 1900Beautifully crafted with panelled and ebonised door to front and carvings to top of piers and rear top.The side are made from high quality quarter sawn oak and therefore exhibit very attractive striations in the grain sometimes referred to as medullary rays.Original ink stamp on the rear stating either 'BARBER or BARKER ' & Sons , ANN STREET , BIRMINGHAM. There was a Walter.A. Barber of Kings Norton , Birmingham who was a cabinet maker in 1901 so this may well be one of his pieces. The ink has slightly worn over the years so difficult to tell if it reads Barker or Barber so I have provided Photo 9 which shows the stamp pretty well.A high quality cabinet where even the back panel has been carefully and neatly crafted. The internal shelf may be easily removed if required as it just lifts out.The top of the door has a metal sprung ball to keep the door securely closed and then just pull to open.MAX HEIGHT : 82 cm ....
