Antique French Long Case Clock - Empty Case Only

£180.00 or Best Offer Unsold

Seller: rockerwriter (2,070) 100%, Location: Cheltenham, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 153002189936 This extraordinary carved oak case dates from the 1700s (see ref. pic). I don’t need adjectives here - the pictures tell the story. The movement (original to the case) was so far gone, it had sadly to be broken for spares. If you know anything about clocks, you’ll know that this case would have housed a Mayet-style Comtoise movement. The case however is in excellent condition. Though the case overall is very high (check your ceiling height) at 233 cm, the hood lifts off, breaking the clock down for transportation to a maximum of 180 cm. The area for the movement measures 31 cm across and 43 cm top to seat board. Both measurements internal. The glazed panel measures 19 cm across and 32 cm deep. The width of the case is 36 cm and the depth 29 cm. There’s not a nail or screw in sight anywhere in the construction - it’s all pegs and dowel. This case (no movement, weights or pendulum remember) is for collection only from leafy Cheltenham - my aged Mercedes estate has died on me so I’m afraid I can’t deliver. Or you can arrange your own courier. It deserves to have an appropriate sympathetic movement, and to live again. The buy-now price might seem high for an empty clock case. It is, in fact, a very low price for an early clock case, the likes of which are so seldom seen as to be classed as ‘rare as hen’s teeth’. Any questions, or more photos, don’t hesitate to email. Clock Type: Longcase/ Grandfather Clock
