It has a masked dial and a brass case with very ornate decoration and unusual handle. There is no maker on it, but it is French and has its original compensated lever escapement on a silvered platform. The clock has been fully dismantled, including the platform escapement (jewels removed where possible), and has had both a manual and ultrasonic clean. It has then been checked and had any necessary work done on it, before then being re-assembled and oiled, so is in excellent working condition. When stripped down, the mainspring was removed from the barrel - it was found to be weak and badly distorted, so was replaced with a new one, properly lubricated. The mainspring is the 'heart' of a clock, so it is important that it is serviced properly. The last five pictures show the movement, after cleaning, before being assembled back into its case. There are a few light age related marks on the movement, although nothing serious. The clock runs for its full length of wind which is the region of eight days. It comes with a modern, double ended brass carriage clock key. The white, circular enamel dial has ornate numerals and is in perfect original condition. It has a brass mask which is in very good condition, with a semi-matt finish. All glasses are bevelled, including the top rectangular one, and are free from chips and cracks. The brass case is in excellent condition - there are just a couple of very tiny marks on the top and the odd nick - not at all bad for over a 100 years old. It is an unusual case with a filligree leaf pattern around the top and bottom and on the uprights. These filligree panels are cast separately to the top, bottom and uprights. It is all original with matching numbers throughout. After being fully dismantled, the case has been polished by hand, but has not been over-polished, so preserving the detail. It has then been coated in a very high quality wax specially made for the brass plates and cases of clocks, which acts has a tarnish inhibitor. The solid brass handle is nice and tight, and the back door closes nicely as it should. It is just over 11cm tall to the top of the case, and approximately 14.1/2cm tall to the top of the handle when it is up. The base width is just under 8cm. I have tried to be very accurate with my description and mention everything I feel the buyer should know, however, please contact me if you have any further questions. The clock will come with a service report showing what work has been done on the movement, and I will also enclose a set of my clock information sheets, written generally to cover the set-up and maintenance of most types of clock. I will always be happy to give extra specific information if needed. UK mainland 24 hour shipping will be by Royal Mail Special Delivery - the clock will be double boxed in new boxes to ensure that it reaches you in perfect condition. I welcome overseas bidders - the clock will be shipped by Royal Mail or UPS, depending on your location.
