Seller: redcar12345 (567) 100%, Location: Near Tarporley, Cheshire, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 352069702565 Antique Inlaid Mahogany Longcase Clock For auction we have wonderful majestic inlaid mahogany longcase clock CASE which is in lovely original condition. On the inside of the trunk door is the original makers label dated 1841 and which reads 'BARTON & ESPLIN, Clock & Watch Makers, OPPOSITE THE SWAN INN, WALL GATE, WIGAN' who were renowned clocks makers. This is a good quality case making is worthwhile to restore. If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched molded cornice and is finished which lovely turned pateras. The hood door is flanked by two beautifully reeded columns which terminate in brass capitals. Above the door is are panels of beautifully painted tin and nicely inlaid which sets it off beautifully. To the rear of the hood are reeded back splats. Moving down to the trunk, the lovely shaped door is flanked by book end square reeded columns which have pretty bands of inlay. Above and below the door is inlaid with lovely wide exotic wood banding, which is wonderful attention to detail. The door is complete with it's lock and key. The base has a frames of exotic wood banding inlay and has canted corners to the front. It is raised on pretty shaped ogee bracket feet. The approximate dimensions of the case are: - 90.75 inches high - 26.25 inches wide across the widest part of the hood - 19.75 inches across the trunk - 24.5 inches wide across the widest part of the base The mask behind the hood door is approximately 13.75 inches / 35 cm wide x 19.75 inches / 50 cm high. Therefore the case would probably fit a 14 inches / 35.5 cm wide x 20 inches / 51 cm high dial. Condition: With regards condition the case is in nice original condition as can be seen from the photographs. There are no splits to base which is nice to see. There are minor knocks / marks commensurate with age and there are odd splits and chips to veneer and odd long dead woodworm holes. Return moulding to bottom of hood lacking to right.
