Antique Continental Pewter Lidded Flagon or Stitze Engraved H.C.K.S.  c1750.

 

Great antique continental, most likely German, pewter lidded flagon or stitze, engraved with the initials H.C.K.S. made c1750.

 

Beautifully shaped, and crafted pewter flagon jug, in Germany these are known as stitze, with a wide swinging wall and bell base.The body has evgraved and raised bands. Flat heart-shaped lid with a raised center. The flagon is fitted with a wide ribbon handle and thumb rest or tab on the lid. Below the pouring lid it is engraved ‘H.C.K.S.’ There are maker marks on the handle, one appears to be dated 1749, the style and patina would be in keeping with a similar date.

 

The condition is commensurate  with the age, there is patination and wear throughout.

 

The flagon measures approx. 24cm tall including the thumb tab, the base is 12.3cm in diameter and the flagon weighs 895g.
