Item:153943336861A superb George III longcase clock by a well-respected Lancashire maker. William Lawson of Newton-le-Willows was born in 1738 and was making clocks from about 1760 until his death in 1805. According to Loomes: a dozen or more longcase clocks have been noted by him… These are mostly arched-dial eight-day examples, the brass dials often having fine engraving and rolling moons and usually housed in grand mahogany ‘Lancashire-style’ cases. This clock is an exceptional example, possibly one of his best. The dial is beautifully laid out with ‘hatched’ centre, silvered chapter rings, centre calendar and corner spandrels. The arch contains very intricately painted moons and intermediate stars/ cloudy skies. The original case is stunning with typical ‘Lancashire Chippendale’ features of verre-eglomise panels, ornate fretwork and exceptional mahogany figuring to the front panels. The original movement is of the normal 8-day, 2-train format, striking the hours on a bell. The clock is fully working and in very good condition. The case has an excellent aged patina, not perfect but likewise not over-restored which is generally undesirable in these clocks. Dimensions are: height 93 inches, width 23 ½ inches (max), depth 10 inches. The clock is complete with lead weights, brass faced pendulum, winder and trunk door key (working lock). Regarding deliveries and the current COVID restrictions: I am currently able to deliver to addresses in England within 300 miles of BA22 (Somerset) on a ‘drop 0ff’ basis for £75, however I will not be able to offer my normal set-up service until restrictions are further lifted, please contact me with any questions about this. To summarise, this is truly an exceptional clock the like of which is rarely seen on the market.Condition:Very good antique condition, fully working., Featured Refinements:Longcase Clock, Age:Antique, Pre-1900, Material:Mahogany, Clock Type:Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme:Georgian, Features:8-Day
