Item:153943333997A handsome and imposing brass dial longcase clock. There is no name on the dial but almost certainly a Northern clock and with features commonly found around 1780. The 13 inch arch dial has silvered centre with intricate foliate engraving and also engraved calibration for the subsidiary seconds. The main chapter ring is also silvered with additional calibration to the inner edge for the centre calendar. The arch contains a moon-phase indicator by way of a revolving painted moon disk with intermediate scenes. As the moon revolves it emerges from (and disappears behind) two beautifully engraved hemispheres, these are again silvered to contrast with the brass dial plate. All in all a very well executed and attractive dial. The movement is typical for this period being of 8-day, 2-train format striking the hours on a bell. The impressive case is basically of oak with mahogany and inlaid detailing. The clock is fully working including moon and date functions. Overall condition is very good. There is an older repair to the lower right dial plate. The base has been replaced at some point. Dimensions are: height 91 inches, 23 inches wide (max) and 11 inches deep. The case originally came with a very large eagle finial which I am happy to include but will add a few inches to the height. The clock is complete with weights, pendulum and winder. The trunk door has no lock but a latch mechanism which is intact and working. There are also remains of a gong system which was probably installed in Victorian times, now no longer connected.
