The is an exceptionally majestic clock as can be seen from the photographs. The clock is by Henry Wardlaw of Liverpool and their is an example of his work in the Liverpool museum. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with superb carved pateras, with beutifully painted panels below which depict pegodas and floral detailing. Pretty reeded double columns, flank the hood door; with half columns on the hood door itself and full turned columns to the outer edge which creates a very grand effect. To the rear are straight quarter reeded columns.If we then move down to the trunk, it has a lovely shaped door has some wonderful grain to the mahogany. There is an oval panel to the centre edged in stringing and there is fuurther stringing inlay to the edge of the door. The door is then flanked by quarter reeded columns. Below the columns are is nicely inlaid with fine stringing. Below the doors is also a levely applied panel with an oval panel to the centre edged in stringing and there is fuurther stringing inlay to the edge of the panel. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working.Finally the base has canted corners. The front of the base is cross banded in mahogany then to the inside of this is a frame stringing edge and there is a circular panel to the centre edged in strinfging,the attention to detail is superb. It is raised on lovely shaped bracket feet.The dial with makers name of 'Heny Wardlaw, Liverpool, has the four corners adorned with beautiful delicately painted flowers gilded gesso work to the edge. The dial is set out with large Arabic Numerals with smaller Arabic numerals above. There are subsidiary second and date dials. The Rolling moon is wonderful with the paintings of the moons and also lovely painting of a galleon and a cottage scene. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is happily ticking away. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is clean.MAKERS DETAILS:There is on H Wardlaw of Liverpool listed in 'LANCASHIRE CLOCKS and CLOCKMAKERS by BRIAN LOOMES':'Wardlaw, Henry. Liverpool. 68 Dale St in 1814; 56 Lime St, 1822-34; 15 Pembroke Gardens in 1848. Liverpool museum have longcase clock'. DIMENSIONS:The approximate dimensions are:- 93.75 inches (238 cm)high- 24.5 inches (62 cm) across the widest part of the hood- 18.75 inches (47.5 cm) across the trunk- 22.75 inches (58 cm) across the widest part of the base As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely proportions.
