About 1859 he appears to have handed over control of the company to Thomas Robert Russell and Alfred Holgate Russell and the firm changed its name to Thomas Russell & Son. By 1877 the company moved premises to Church Street. The partnership between Thomas Robert and Alfred ended in 1870, and after Queen Victoria's death they still signed their watches "Makers to Queen Victoria" even though officially the warrant ceased with the Queen’s death. Thomas Robert continued as the proprietor of the Russell Watch and Chronometer Manufactory at Cathedral Works, 18 Church Street, with addresses in Piccadilly, Toronto and Canada. In 1894 it became Russell's Limited and continued as retail jewellers with branches in Liverpool, and by the early 1900s Manchester and Llandudno. Alfred Russell continued the company of Thomas Russell & Son and in 1880 the company was listed as watch and chronometer manufacturers and machine-made keyless lever and jewellery merchants by appointment to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and the Admiralty. Eventually the firm was converted to a limited company. Liverpool museum have a watch by Russells Ltd, Liverpool Hallmarked 1903.The clock chimes the hours and either Westminster, Whittington or St. Micheal chimes on the quarter hours in such a manner that it chimes a quarter of the tune at quarter past, half the tune at half past, three quarters of the tune at quarter to then the full tune on the hour followed by striking the hour.
