Seller: sportique_2 (3,892) 100%, Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 272211775373 Condition: Good sound condition. Slight but old movement to the boards on the left hand side of the top. The split staple of the left hand hinge is slightly raised. The only alteration I can see is the addition of beading strips to hold the base board secure. See picture., Details: TThis is a genuine antique Oak Coffer. It had been in the same house for 80 years when I bought it and had apparently been in the same fmily for a lot longer. The is and Oak Coffer or in todays terms a Blanket Box. I cannot place an exact date on it but I would estimate it to be Victorian or earlier. As you can see from the pictures the front panels have been hand carved in an attractive design. The twin panelled lid is hinged with split ring staples. The sides and back panel are plain and it stands on 4 short legs. The pictures do not do the colour and patina of this coffer justice, they make it look a little washed out. The things you need to know are: The coffer is sound. There is some separation of the boards on the left hand side of the lid. See picture 11. They have been like this for a long time. The prongs or feet of the left hand hinge which come through the top of the lid are slightly raised. The only alteration I can see is the addition of some beading inside the coffer to hold the base on place. The lock may work but I do not have a key. It will need an eye added to the lid, through which the lock bar can pass. The dimensions are:- Lid 55" x 22" x 24" High. The base measures 50" x 20 3/4".
