This is an 8-Day oak and mahogany longcase clock which is signed C. Johnson Congleton’. The clock is being sold requiring a little restoration.
If we start with the hood, this has a flat top. Pretty reeded columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. The door is mahogany veneered. Above the door also has a panel of wide mahogany banding surrounded in chequer board stringing which sets it off nicely.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped door cross banded in mahogany. The door is also complete with its lock and key. The door is then flanked by square reeded columns.
Finally the base has canted corners and has been cross banded in mahogany. The base is raised on shaped ogee bracket feet.
The dial with makers name of ‘C. Johnson, Congleton’, this name is faded but can still be read. It has the four corners adorned with lovely patterns. There is subsidiary second dial and date aperture. The dial also has fretted fingers.
The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement goes with pressure to the great wheels.
The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are:
