Item:253959974537ROSEWOOD VICTORIAN PEMBROKE TABLE WITH SINGLE DRAWER CIRCA 1890 Marquetry rosewood with satinwood and tulip wood inlay. Design is echoed from the four corners on the table top to the central crossover of the struts underneath. Taper legs with original porcelain casters, screws and fitments. A type first made in the 1760s but associated especially with Sheraton, who considered it suitable for 'a gentleman or lady to breakfast on'; the design is in fact similar to the breakfast tables illustrated by Chippendale. The two flaps, usually with rounded corners, rested on hinged fly brackets. A drawer would be fitted at one end of the central part. Condition: Excellent with only superficial signs of usage and movement.
