Seller: longcaseclockman (913) 100%, Location: Near Tarporley, Cheshire, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 133417435881 This is a nice 8-Day Halifax Moon inlaid oak and mahogany longcase clock which is all original and being sold requiring some restoration. The dial is signed 'James Blackhurst, Over'. James Blackhurst of Over is listed in 'Cockmakers of Cheshire by Keith Appleby : 'BLACKHURST, James. OVER. Clock and Waltchmaker. 1848 - 78. Born 1819, Died 1887'. If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with superb brass pateras, with stringing inlaid in the panel below. Pretty full turned columns flank the hood door. The door is mahogany veneered and inlaid with stringing. The shaped trunk door has some nice grain and is cross banded with mahogany. The door is then flanked by square reeded columns and below the door is a pretty applied inlaid panel. Finally the base has been cross banded and has a square and circular frame of inlay to the centre. The dial has the four corners adorned with flowers. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is a subsidiary date dial. The Halifax moon is wonderful with the moons and also lovely painting of a sailing boat and a cottage scene. The dial is signed 'James Blackhurch, Over'. The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The approximate dimensions are: 82 1/4 inches / 209 cm high x 22 3/4 inches / 58 cm wide across hood , 17 1/2 inches / 44.5 cm wide across the trunk, 20 3/4 inches / 53 cm wide across the base As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely proportions. The clock is in nice original condition but is being sold requiring some restoration, there are some chips to the veneer and odd knocks and chips, please view photographs. The dial is in original condition and as such is faded in places. The clock ticks away but is being sold requiring a clean and service.
