It has an eight-day movement on an arched painted dial. This truly is a wonderful clock which has the most fantastic mahogany case and is very nicely detailed. If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched moulded cornice and is finished which lovely carved pateras. The top of the clock is finished with a superb turned finials to the centre. The hood door is flanked by superb reeded and turned columns which are beautifully detailed. To the rear are simple back splats. Moving down to the trunk, the lovely arched shaped door which is typical of the area. The doors is flanked by lovely turned and carved reeded columns. The base is has a central panel with some lovely mahogany grain and is then surrounded in wide mahogany cross banding and has canted corners to the front. The base is then raised on lovely turned feet to the front with brackets to the rear. The eight-day movement has an arched painted face and subsidiary second and date dials. The four corners are beautifully adorned with beautiful delicately painted flowers. The arch has a lovely country scene painting of people fishing on the water in a small boat with a castle / historic house in the background. The dial bears the makers name 'James Scott, Kendal'. The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order having recently been recently serviced. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is nice and clean. AGE / MAKERS DETAILS: There are two James Scott of Kendal listed in 'Watchmaker and Clockmakers of the World Volume 2 by Brian Loomes' who were father and son, one being James Scott and the other (the son) James Wilson Scott, as this clock dates to circa 1840 this will refer to the father: 'SCOTT, James. Lancaster. b. 1803 - 32, then Kendal 1832 - 71'. DIMENSIONS: The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions of the clock are: - 94.25 inches / 240 cm high - 25.25 inches / 64 cm across widest part of hood - 18 inches / 46 cm across the trunk - 22.5 inches / 57 cm across widest part of base CONDITION: The clock is in wonderful condition. The movement is lovely and clean and in perfect working order having recently been serviced.
