ROSEWOOD ON MAHOGANY. Here for auction I have another clock from my collection that I am disposing of. A stunning twin fusee large bracket clock with dial signed "Muston and Gath, Bristol. Housed in a well proportioned Regency style arch top case. The case is veneered in Rosewood over what I think is Mahogany. The arch top features a flower and leaf carving to the front edge. Brass side fret panels with red fabric background which has been replaced. The front vertical corner edges have brass inlaid as can be seen. These lead down to a waisted Rosewood moulding and the lower base standing on bun feet. As to be expected on a clock approaching 200 years old their are some stress cracks along the grain run in the veneer, and their is also a tiny piece of veneer missing top right rear corner on the arch top (see picture). Rear door to the clock is glazed and is lockable with the key supplied. One hinge has been replaced and the other requires attention as the door is a little proud on the lock side. As can be seen their is a clock label inside the case, Monks of Camberwell, probably from a service. The 8 inch silvered and engraved dial is enclosed by a brass, glazed convex glass bezel that is released by turning the key in the side key hole. Small scratch and some edge chips to glass. Nice Roman numerals with outer minute track. Strike / silent lever is above the 12. Dial is engraved signed Muston and Gath, Bristol. original Moon hands. Silvering still in good condition, few tiny marks. Clock movement is a good quality two train 8 day chain fusee. Heavy brass plates with 5 pillars, sitting above a shelf and retained in the normal manner with side fixing brass brackets. Strike is carried out on the hours with the hammer striking a 3¼ inch bell mounted on the rear movement plate, nice tone. Strike can be silenced from the dial side lever. The heavy original pendulum can be retained in its parking bracket for transit purposes, the large retaining screw is held in the right hand movement bracket. The clock movement is in a clean & lubricated condition, having been serviced a year ago. In good working order and in daily use. Further regulation may be required after journey.
