This item

consists of two beautiful old door knobs, as shown. Their diameter is 2.125"; solid and heavy (5 0zs each). This is the only doorknob set I've seen that mounts without setscrews. The side shown with the spindle still in place uses a .125" brass pin. The other side uses the 1.75" machine screw that threads into a center-hole in the spindle. The spindle must have been slotted to accommodate a "key" inside the knob's shank, also threaded. There is a line stamped in the end of the shank to tell the installer which way to face the slot. The pattern is not represented in Leonard Blumin's book, Victorian Decorative Art, but a thoughtful collector did find it in the online version of the book (antiquedoorknobs [dot] us). It is H-28900 in the on-line version of the book, patented Aug. 31, 1886 by Frank Hollenbeck, Hollenbeck Lock & Knob Co. Sold as shown.
