Item:123898423827LONDON 8 DAY GEORGIAN walnut longcase clock Baron of London - a truly superb mid-18th century walnut longcase clock, of tall proportions, having a basket top with giltwood finials, fret carved frieze, and twin three quarter turned pilasters flanking arched brass dial (w.11¾"), signed to silvered plaque Baron London, having cast brass spandrels, silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, rolling date dial, matted centre with twin ringed winding holes for a brass five pillar weight driven eight day movement striking on a bell, with a unusual passing strike at the half hour. The clock also possesses an unusual pull repeat lever, seldom found on all but quality longcase clocks. The break arch has two cherubs supporting an oval , this may have once held the owners name or similar but was like this when acquired, examples by Baron are known with the same cherubs holding a cartouche containing a Royal coat of arms. also strike silent mechanism with usual S and N setting tab The gorgeous tall walnut case having glass lenticel to door over box base (with some minor repairs), h.236 cm (excluding finials). Unusual construction of separate plinth, trunk and hood i.e. case comes in three not two sections a lovely thing in good working order. This tends to suggest English made for the Dutch market, as their cases of this period came in three sections, and this one also has a further gold stand see photo, I am not sure that this is contemporaneous to the rest of the clock , but as it came with ot can go with it but isn't to my personal; taste In addition there is a further later probably associated gilt stand the whole clock can stand upon if one has sufficient height e.g. large hall stairwell to make this clock even more magnificent. See photo we have never used it due to height but happy it goes as part of the clock.Comes complete with its pendulum, winding crank and two brass weights. This is a superb quality example from a top mid C18th London maker in a high quality walnut case , not your usual run of the mill mahogany longcase clock.CASH ON COLLECTION PLEASE Weights are lead with brass covers and tops look contemporary to me and assume have always belonged to this clock as they are quality weights see new photo. finials are circa 6.5 inches high i.e. c 16 cms so max height without bottom plinth which I think was a later addition is circa 252 cms . We have had d clock situated without centre finial as ceiling a tad too low in our house again see additional photo, its the clock to the left in photo Buyer to collect from HP3 near Jn 20 M25 and Jn8 M1 or arrange their own courier at his costCondition:A superb quality walnut Georgian 8 day London made Longcase clock, working beautiful condition , respected maker for royalty in UK and in the Netherlands, Dutch striking rare pull repeat two period brass cased lead weights etc., Sub-Type:Grandfather, Age:Antique, Pre-1900, Material:Walnut, Clock Type:Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme:Georgian, Type:Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Features:Centre Date
