This wonderful pot clearly bears the Leach Pottery seal and measures 12cm tall.
It was bought from an established Cornish auction house who specialise in studio pottery. They attributed this pot to Bernard Leach.
I wrote to the auction house for some more information on the reasons for the attribution and this was their reply:
"I have contacted our Studio Pottery Specialist who has written this back to me for you information, hope this helps.
Lot 820 in my opinion was made by Bernard Leach at the Leach Pottery. Obviously the vase only has the pottery seal but I have seen many of this style of cylinder vase over the last 20 years which have had a BL seal as well. I am almost certain this was not part of the standard ware range produced at the pottery and although this form is not a scarcity it is a design and shape which is normally attributed to Bernard. The vase is well thrown and the decoration is even and well executed. Of course an attribution is never concrete proof that that person made the item but I am confident that many other valuers / experts in this field would share my opinion that this was made and decorated by BL."
