Seller: automobilism ✉️ (59) 0%, Location: Nantwich, GB, Ships to: GB, Item: 153105007792 Classic 1930s Fordson 7V V8 flathead, lorry / dropside pickup / van, Ford truck. Circa 1938 Fordson 7V lorry (early type), V8 flathead engine. Restoration project, original registration, ex-WW2. LOW START BID, NO RESERVE. Original, un-messed with, as parked up. With some reluctance I've decided to part with this very characterful old lorry. I'm told that GGX registrations were issued to vehicles destined to serve as part of the war effort in WW2 by the local authorities in London. Old AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service) lettering can be made out on both doors, and it has had lettering or a symbol painted on the o/s/f wing which I can't quite make out. Originally, it had a separate box van body on the rear. This was disposed of by a previous owner. As it has an enclosed cab it now lends itself to being rebuilt as a flatbed (please see my note further down * about the availability of a period rear lorry bed), a dropside pickup, or restored back to a van. The Ford is currently stored at a local garage, near Whitchurch (Shrops SY13), from where collection will need to be made. Original registration. The Fordson is still registered with DVLA, the logbook will need sending off for as the 7V came from a deceased estate and the misplaced V5 hasn't yet turned up. If it does, I'll forward it. Naturally I'll give a full receipt to the winning bidder. The original chassis plate is affixed to the dash, I also found a loose Briggs body plate and an original commercial user's licence tucked away inside the cab. The registration dates to mid-1941 but the lorry is approx 3 yrs earlier I think – in 1939 the 7V's styling was revised with a larger, flatter, radiator grille, this though is the earlier & rarer curved 1937-1938 grille style. It may well have served for a few years on site somewhere, before being registered for the road in '41. Bodywork. The cab will require restoration as the photos show. Some of the wood and metalwork has survived reasonably well for its 80 years and will be re-usable, the poorer areas of frame and outer metal skin that need re-working will be suitable as templates. The driver's door needs re-aligning (neither door drops), the A and B posts are very sound and the curved step areas aren't too bad either. The wings need some repair but are mostly solid. The dashboard is complete, the driver's seat is still there and has survived ok. All the engine covers in the cab are present. Externally, the old green paint is faded and will either need re-doing, or just do the repairs to the body and oily rag it. Engine. I've made no attempt to get the engine running (although I would have liked to hear it burbling away). My guess is that the lorry hasn't been on the road for at least 40 years, possibly longer. Obviously the running gear will want going through as with any restoration, however the old flathead does turn over by hand which is a bonus. A few old tools are with it, including the starting handle and original wheel spanner. Three spare wheels are included – two of the old tyres still have WD (War Department) stamps on them! The lorry measures approx 18' 6” in length. At its widest point (across the rear axle, outer tyre edge to outer tyre edge) it measures 6' 9”, slightly narrower at the front. Summary. The old Ford needs restoring throughout (assume everything needs something doing and you won't go far wrong). It's a good starting point for anyone wishing to tackle the rebuild of what is now a rare vehicle, especially with that petrol V8 soundtrack (no smokey old diesel here). Retaining its original registration is a bonus too. A bit of research online turned up a preserved AFS/NFS Austin lorry in a museum, that also has a GGX xxx registration. Fordson 7Vs continued in production until 1949, making this quite an early survivor. The photos were all taken today (18-7-2018). *Availability of a late-1930s rear flatbed body frame. (Please note, the owners of the garage where the Ford is stored have an original steel rear bed structure - minus timber - from a 1937 Chevrolet truck (1.5 ton or 2 ton) available, which will be offered separately to whoever buys the Fordson from me, as size-wise it would work on the Fordson's chassis. This bed measures 6' 2” wide, 12' long. Price for the bed to the winning bidder = 250.00. It appears in one of the photos, alongside the spare wheels.) Bidding. Assume all areas of the Fordson will need checking over (brakes, electrics, running gear etc), and re-furbishing as required, including but not necessarily limited to the areas described above, before being suitable to put it back on the road. I’ve tried to describe it as best as possible in words and in the photos, but not having used it on the road myself (nor has it been on the road for 40-50 yrs), and not being an expert in these vehicles, I may have missed something. No guarantees/warranties given or implied, sold as-is for restoration, it cannot be driven home!!!!. - The auction will run to the end - There is no buy-it-now price - It is NOT advertised anywhere else, that way it's fairest to whoever might want to have a bid – high bidder wins – nice and simple. - I've set a low start point for the bidding reflecting that this is a project, and there's no reserve. - No returns.   Please note: - £ Bank of England cash on collection if you’re collecting in person please. - I will also accept a cleared direct bank transfer prior to collection day, if you’re sending a collection driver to pick it up. - payment strictly within 7 days of auction end, and collection within similar timeframe please. - contact to be made by the purchaser within 24hrs of the sale ending, otherwise I reserve the right to re-list. - a suitably sturdy recovery vehicle will be required (it rolls ok but you'll need a hefty winch nevertheless). Stored in North Shropshire, SY13 area. Bidders with <80 feedback, a score <10, or recent negative comments please send me your contact details prior to bidding, otherwise I reserve the right to remove your bid. Bids are accepted on the understanding that the above description has been read in full, and the photos (all taken today) which form part of the description studied. Thanks for looking. If it doesn't sell, I'll not be too disappointed - my wife may disagree though :)
