It looks Victorian but could be as late as the 1920's? It is made from classic heavy gauge tin-plate with rolled edges and seams. It comprises a weighted base with column surmounted by a cistern 7 ins in diameter x 5 ins deep. To one side of the cistern is fitted a small simple sluice gate which closely covers a hole leading to an outlet chute. The curved trough doubles as a holder for the wheel pivot and also as an outlet for the spent water. The wheel is fitted with 16 scoops which "over-balance" the wheel when the water start to flow. This device works very well and one litre of water keeps the wheel spinning for a good minute - plenty long enough to study the motion etc. The wheel rotates very fast. The Tin-smith that created this work of art certainly knew what he was doing. This item is coated with red, green & gold lacquer which is in very good condition for its age, (there is some flaking in placesCondition: excellent.Overall Height: 13 inchesOverall length: 15 inches Please feel free to have a look at my other items.
