Seller: clockbroker (117) 100%, Location: Mansfield, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 122213393527 Condition: Excellent condition. Restored movement in perfect working order., Details: DROCOURT ENGRAVED GORGE CASED REPEATING CARRIAGE CLOCK This is a superb carriage clock of French manufacture dating from the last quarter of the nineteenth century which can be confidently attributed to one of the best makers of their time ,Drocourt. Pierre & Alfred Drocourt were one of the top makers of carriage clocks in the mid to late Victorian period, having a factory at Saint-Nicolas-d’Ailermont in France, which was the most important town for carriage clock manufacture at the time. They also had premises in Paris at Rue Debelleyme 28 and Rue de Limoges. Pierre & Alfred Drocourt made superb carriage clocks that were often decorative and were awarded numerous medals at exhibitions, such as the Bronze Medal at Paris 1867, the Silver at Paris 1878 and the gold at Paris in 1889. The son, Alfred Drocourt, succeeded his father Pierre Drocourt sometime in the 1870s Please see the excellent article by Leigh Extence who has conducted in depth research into this firm. Although unstamped by Drocourt this clock has all the features they used including the Blanc Roulant provided by HL and has his stamp of the front plate. The back plate is numbered 4737 and the base plate is also stamped 30194 These numbers are repeated on the inside of the front plate. The lever platform ,style of engraving and the slow/fast indicator engraving is also typical as is the shallow angled plate over the going train spring barrel. I have supplied several images of the movement so collectors can confirm my findings. The style and type of case is also typical being of Gorge style which is beautifully engraved on all sides. The fully engraved back door and oval glass over the platform are also typical of Drocourt. The quality of this clock is outstanding and of a very good size being only 5 3/4 inches tall to the top of the handle just under 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 deep.I have shown it next to a standard sized carriage clock for size comparison The white porcelain dial is 2 inches in diameter and is in perfect condition. The gilded mask is also well engraved. The beautifully made 8 day duration movement strikes the hours and half hours on a bell and has an alarm. The clocks also has repeat facility activated by a button on top of the case The overall condition is excellent as can be seen from the images having been professionally cleaned and serviced . The vast majority of the original gilding has been retained and the colour excellent. The bevelled glass is perfect and the lever platform escapement original. I am sure that the condition will delight the most discerning customer.
