Clocks weren't just a decoration; families centred their lives on the time they displayed. As a repairer, each one is defiantly different and has a personality. When you think of what the world has been through since these clocks were made, my mind just boggles. Wars, natural disasters and the changing face of technology. Millions upon millions of lives born and lost along with all they have experienced. How many children learnt to tell the time using them? How many owners have these clock had? How many times have they been handed down after the owner has died?If only they could talk!I am passionate and obsessed about these old clocks and want to see them being passed down for future generations. Please read the note towards the bottom of this listing. On offer here is a lovely, circa 1905 Ansonia bracket/mantel clock, whose model name is Rialto. This clock has been fully and extensively, restored, serviced and cleaned by myself. The case to this clock was in very poor condition and required a great deal of work. The movement too, was in poor condition and was not working. I have cleaned and serviced the movement to what I hope you think is a high standard. This clock is an eight day and strikes on the half hour and counts the hours at 12. It has a lovely sounding gong. It is now keeping very good time. The mahogany coloured case dimensions are 10” wide by 15 ½” high by 5 ¼” deep. The clock dates from around 1905. For a clock around hundred ten years old and because of the service it has undergone, now runs and strikes very well. Please do bear in mind that this is an old clock and therefore although in very good condition for its age, there are some imperfections related to this. As I have said, the case was in very poor condition. It was thick with a century’s worth of nicotine and I ended up stripping, re-staining it and finally varnishing to finish. All in all it had many hours of work. The case will have some small marks which will be age related, but this is very minor. The face and dial were not too bad, its main problem being dirt. I have taken great care in cleaning it and I think it is in great condition for a clock this age. I have touched up the numerals and replaced the key grommets. The hands have been re-blued as they were corroded. This clock comes with an old key, but I don’t think its original. In summary, this clock has been fully restored, cleaned and serviced. The movement was filthy and has been completely stripped. It required 6 new bushes. All pivots have been polished in my lathe. All part have been cleaned and finished by hand.Dial has been cleaned and touched up.Hands have been re-blued.Case has been completely restored. This clock has had about 30 man hours of work carried out on it plus around 3 weeks of testing. As with all my clocks, the buyer will receive my own care sheets so that you will get the most out of the clock. Covering four sheets of A4, these pages cover everything from winding up the clock and adjusting the time, to when to have it serviced. You will receive a TDK C/D with a write up and a 113 photos showing all the work I have done on the movement and case. The care sheets will be on the CD.
