  • Condition: Fair to Good overall vint cond: The wood doesn't have any fractures, breaks or repairs. The front enamel surface does suffer from some areas of paint loss. No attempt has been made to in-paint or to otherwise remedy this. It's an earlier Mexican handcarved & hand painted mask & looks to have been often handled, meaning it may have been repeatedly used in rituals, ceremonial parades & street theater. The mask is nearly monumental & the carving exquisite, as is the painting, making this larger than usual Latin American & most likely Mexican 20th c mask a memorable one. We have elected to leave it alone so the mask clearly shows off its vintage pedigree. It's not perfect but it's still a great mask which only demonstrates previous usage during its time by the people who made it, as it was originally intended. Great sculptural presence & artistic plasticity. Terrific & fresh to the marketplace. Wonderful. Found in the rough & kept in the rough. It still has its original authenticity. Great
