This is a 'Buy it Now' for an attractive late Victorian campaign group of three medals to the King's Own Scottish Borderers, which are all correctly named as follows: 1895 India Service Medal with clasp Punjab Frontier 1897-98, named in running script to: 3668 L. CORPORAL, J. FAWCETT 2ND /BN K.O. SCOT. BORD. 1899 Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps Johannesburg, Paardeberg and C.C., named with impressed capitals to: 3668 CORPL: J. FAWCETT. K.O. SCOT: BORD: 1902 King's South Africa Medal with clasps 1901 & 1902, named with impressed capitals to: 3668 SERJT: J. FAWCETT. K.O. SCOT: BORD: All medals and clasps confirmed on medal rolls and nicely showing his rise in rank. The naming 'Corporal' and 'Scot. Bord.' on the India Service Medal is very worn, but his name and number etc are still nice and clear - see photo. Lance-Corporal John Fawcett served with the 2nd Battalion in India, then as a Corporal and then Sergeant in South Africa with the 1st Battalion, and he still appears to be serving in March 1903 when the KSA roll was compiled in Belfast, see photo above. On checking the the Army Long service and Good Conduct Medal rolls for Victoria, Edward VII and George V up to 1919 for the KOSB, Mr Fawcett's name doesn't appear.  Looking at those awarded the long service medal his service number suggests he joined around 1888, therefore one must assume he either didn't serve long enough, or he had too many entries in the defaulters book which  precluded the award of any medal, so this trio being his full entitlement. **NOTE** We have been informed of the following from a KOSB collector/researcher regarding Mr John Fawcett. He enlisted with the army on 26 September 1877, and he also served during the Second Afghan War with 1st Battalion, 25th Regt. Foot (medal no clasp), service number 1534. He was eventually discharged at Ballykinier Camp in Ireland on 16 August 1904. He also re-enlisted for service in the Great War with the West Yorkshire Regiment, service number 9990, spending his war service at the West Yorks Depot with no medal entitlement, although he was awarded a SWB number 193573. We will also include a copy of the Afghan Medal Roll for 25th Regt. with Fawcett's entry. The medals are all in gVF condition and come with copies of the medal rolls which confirm all his awards, and we will email these to the buyer. This trio is also available on our new Instagram page at a different price - santlache_coins_medals Any questions please by all means send us an email, which can be found below in Business Seller Information.
