Resincolour Customcast Casting Resin Customcast Casting Resin is available as a Slow Cure 100:40 Deep Casting Resin for casting up to 70mm and as a Fast Cure 100:25 Casting Resin for casting up to 10mm. Please note the Fast Cure and Slow Cure Resin options are two different product options. Each has its own mixing ratio and changing the product specific ratio will result in the resin being unable to cure correctly. Customcast Epoxy Casting Resin has been specially formulated to provide the perfect epoxy resin for your casting project. The resin is optically clear and UV stabilised and has been specifically developed for Worktops, River Tables, Jewellery Making, Large Castings, etc, with a very low viscosity level. Customcast Slow Cure has an amazing single pour level of 70mm with a 36/48 hour cure time making it perfect for large river table projects! In order to achieve this Customcoat has a longer curing time and curing times can be longer when curing in temperatures less than 25ºC or when used for shallower castings. Customcast Fast Cure has a single pour level of 10mm with a 12/24 hour cure time making it perfect for smaller depth casting projects! Curing times can be longer when curing in temperatures less than 25ºC. Please Note. We will ship to other countries but the purchase will not be covered by our free delivery service and you will be charged whatever rate Royal Mail charge us for a tracked service so if you do not want to pay for additional postage please do not purchase. Each kit also contains:Customcast Resin600ml Calibrated Mixing Cup1 Mixing Stick Customcast Resin: Customcast Casting Resin has been specially formulated and manufactured in the UK to provide the perfect epoxy resin for your project. The resin is optically clear and UV stabilised and suitable for single pours of up to 70mm (slow) and 10mm (fast). The mixing ratio must be accurately followed. It is not possible to change the ratio as this will result in lower mechanical properties and the resin not setting properly. The mixture should be thoroughly stirred (3-4 minutes) to ensure proper mixing. It is important you only mix what you need as if left in a container epoxy resin will begin to heat up (exotherming) and if this occurs it will significantly reduce the working gel time of the product. Customcast can be hand poured, or applied by brush or roller. The resin can be tinted any colour by adding pigment powders and glitters and the amount you add will give either a translucent or fully opaque look. Always make sure your piece is perfectly flat and level as Customcast will automatically self level. Like all resins Customcast may form small bubbles when mixing and although the product has excellent degassing properties any remaining bubbles on your poured piece can easily be popped using a sharp object or by passing warm air over your piece using a blowtorch or hot air gun on a slow speed setting. Don’t hold the blowtorch or hot air blower closer than 30cm to your artwork otherwise you risk creating ripples and dimples in the resin finish. You will need to protect the piece from dust accumulation for at least 24hrs. You can do this by using a dust sheet or a box to cover the piece. TECHNICAL DATASHEET CUSTOMCAST EPOXY RESIN FOR MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS This CLEAR RIGID EPOXY RESIN system is specially formulated for decorative applications including casting. It is totally clear and has good UV resistance giving excellent optical properties with negligible shrinkage on curing. PLEASE READ ALL THESE NOTES BEFORE USING. Preparation This resin can be used for casting decorative parts featuring a long working time, ease of use and low exotherm. Ensure ambient material and workshop temperature is between 18 to 25ºC and humidity level below 70%. Mixing by Weight - Part A Resin 100 : 40 Part B Hardener SlowMixing by Weight - Part A Resin 100 : 25 Part B Hardener Fast Mixing is critical and must be accurate. Pour the hardener first then the resin. The combined liquids must be thoroughly mixed manually or mechanically to completely remove any haziness or streaks, scraping the sides and base of the mixing pot then transferring the mix to a second container and stirring is best practice for good castings. An entirely homogeneous mix is essential in achieving optimal results. It is important to only mix the correct quantity at a time as epoxy systems tend to exotherm when kept in a mass. (Mixing by weight: 100g Part A resin to 40g Part B Hardener pro-rata). Application The mixture can then be poured into a mould. The mould can be a hard mould or made of silicone rubber. Moulding can be carried out by gravity or under vacuum or pressure. It does not trap air easily and does not heat up when used properly. Temperature should be between 18 to 25ºC. Humidity level below 70%. Pot life for a 500g mix at 22ºC is approx 8-10 hours SlowPot life for a 500g mix at 22ºC is approx 1 hour Fast The mix will produce a hard casting, suitable for manufacture of fancy shapes, decorative items etc. Should a new mix be applied onto cured resin, the contact surface should always be sanded in order to enhance adhesion. Curing This resin will cure at different rates based on the volumes used and thickness of parts. Typically a 500g, 70cm thick cast will be de-mouldable after 12/24 hours @ 25°C (fast) and 36/48 hours @ 25°C (slow). The resin will continue to cure for several days at room temperature. All mixing containers and tools can be cleaned with Acetone or Cellulose Thinners. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM CAUSE Resin is crystalline and/or opaque Storage at below 10ºC REMEDY Sit resin container in hot water ~50°C or on a radiator and agitate contents frequently until it becomes clear again. It can now be used as per instructions. Ensure ALL signs of cloudiness and/or crystals are melted before mixing with hardener. PROBLEM CAUSE: Uncured after 24 to 48 Hours: Wrong Mixing ratio and/or low temperature. PROBLEM CAUSE: The Mixture gets too hot: High temperature and/or too much mixture was prepared. PROBLEM CAUSE: Air bubbles are entrapped Mixing was too fast and did not have time to release air. PROBLEM CAUSE: Sticky, greasy surface: Humidity levels too high. PACKING & STORAGE Shelf life is one year in sealed containers as provided. Keep containers sealed and away from heat and cold. HEALTH & SAFETY This product is a modern formulation of the safest epoxy chemicals available. It is however advised to follow basic rules such as avoiding skin contact, wear masks when producing dust. Please read our standard health and safety sheet for more information.
