He was apprenticed to his father Michael (1) in 1672 and became a Free Brother of the Clockmakers Company in 1683. The 12 inch square brass chapter ring and spandrel dial has a well matted and engraved centre with a small date aperture above 6 o'clock and a subsidiary seconds dial below 12 o'clock .The cherubs head spandrels have decorative engraving between them. The winding holes are ringed and the makers name is engraved on the chapter ring. The fine quality weight driven of one month duration has five finned and knopped pillars and strikes the hours on a bell which is controlled by an outside count wheel . It has been expertly serviced by Overton Clocks of Chesterfield and is in perfect working order. The magnificent case has a carcase of English oak and veneered in walnut and arabesque marquetry . The sides have walnut panels and a glazed sight aperture to the sides of the case. The images can show much more than a lengthy description in words but suffice to say that it in remarkable condition for an item which is over 300 years of age having been renovated by a 78 year old Master Craftsman . It will delight the most discerning client . Interested parties are encouraged to view the clock as it is actually better in the flesh Marquetry clocks of this great age were only made for the very wealthiest of clients and to find one of month duration is very rare indeed as the tolerances required made the movements very difficult to produce. If you wish to use your own courier I will do all I can to assist. I only charge actual costs incurred for shipping BUT I will use a large box with plenty of packing to avoid damage and this will make shipping (particulary to foreign countries) a little more expensive due to volumetric weight. Custom made boxes, bubble wrap and peanuts all cost money and the cost of these materials will be added to the cost of shipping. For example a Vienna wall clock costs me £15 in materials.I do not charge for my time for packing. Every care will be taken when packing but no liability will be accepted for damage by the couriers and it must be remembered that it is virtually impossible to guarrantee 100 percent that a peice of glass may not be damaged on the odd occasion. Insurance is a difficult and expensive area with respect to antiques and usually has a low ceiling that is why I use recognised tracked and signed for couriers and do not insure seperately. If you wish to seperately insure your item I will do all I can to assist but the responsibility to arrange the said insurance is with the buyer Terms of Sale It is requested that all buyers contact me within 24 hours and pay in full within 7 days unless a prior arrangement is made Please do not agree to buy something unless you intend to pay.
