A very nice example of a brass faced English longcase clock dating from 1760-1790. The Hispaniola mahogany case and movement cover are in excellent condition. The 8-day brass/steel movement which strikes on the hour, is complemented by lead weights together with a "wire" & lead pendulum and what appears to be the original movement winder and case/hood keys. The movement is by Samuel West, a London based clock-maker and glass retailer. The clock was purchased in the late 1980s in Sutton Valence from a very reputable dealer - has run perfectly. Over the past 2/3 years it stops & then re-starts when set-up at floor level (I have been reluctant to attach it to the wall & have a "floating" oak floor in the living room which does not help). In brief it would benefit from a service/clean. A clock which has given me a great deal of pleasure. Measurements:- Height: 90.5" (230cms). Width (max.): 20.5" (52cms). Depth (max): 10.0" (25cms). The clock to be collected by buyer - it is also for sale on ebay.fr Condition: MAGNIFICENT., Age: Antique, Pre-1900, Sub-Type: Grandfather, Type: Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Material: Mahogany, brass and steel., Style/ Origin/ Theme: Georgian, Features: Strikes on the hour.
