Item:183884076208Superb Quality London Bracket Clock dating from c.1870. Fully cleaned & serviced Richard & Cie movement, complete with trademark and numbered.A fully comprehensive service has just been carried out by James Cavie, one of the very best horologists in the country, who worked for many years with Derek Roberts in Tonbridge. It is rare to find such a high quality clock, except in the most expensive London dealers. It has been beautifully made with all the quality features you would expect:The case is mahogany with satin wood inlays (see close up pictures). All the case furniture is solid brass: Finials, handle, columns and feet. The case has been bees wax polished and has excellent patina. It has a heavy bevelled glass with brass surround, and very attractive silvered face and correct steel hands. It is marked with the clockmaker/retailer's name STANLEY of CHANCERY LANE, LONDON. A large impressive clock it stands nearly 19ins High with the handle up, or normally 16ins (41cm) High with the handle flat, 8.25ins (21cm) Wide, and 7.5ins (19cm) Deep. The movement was made by the highly regarded Richard et Cie in Paris. The company was founded in Paris in 1848 and a branch was added in London in 1857. Loomes states that the London business closed in 1881. The movement is correctly stamped with the R&C markings with the snakes head motif between (see pictures), this is the correct trademark for the movement. It is marked "FABRIQUE DE PARIS" and numbered. It strikes the hours on a gong with a passing single strike on the half hour. The pendulum is also numbered and is of the regulator type with an adjustable wheel to regulate the time. Please see Buyers feedback from clocks recently purchased from me.Overall, an outstanding and beautiful clock which be an impressive addition to any collector, or attractive feature in the home. Keeps excellent time. Note: the clock does have solid brass feet so it is recommended to either use felt pads or similar to avoid scratching furniture. I would be delighted to show you the clock working before purchase. It can be viewed at TN11 9AQ (near Tonbridge, Kent). Payment either byPayPal or cash on collection. As it is large and an antique I do not want to risk damaging it in the post, so it is for collection only, or I may be able to deliver at a reasonable cost but please ask first.Condition:Excellent condition with the usual minor marks of an antique nearly 150 years old. Attrractive patina, solid brass handle, finials, feet and columns. Thick bevelled glass and mechanism fully serviced. See pictures and details.
