Moon, Centre Calendar, Stunning Flame Mahogany Case An excellent and very impressive original longcase clock with all the best features!Video here: https://youtu.be/dh8JHO0q6L4 Edward Glase is listed as working from Bridgnorth from around 1770 until 1807. A google search will reveal some other rather well-appointed clocks by him but this one appears to be the most luxurious. The painted dial, with its large Arabic numerals, is typical of (Loomes) ‘period 2’ spanning the years from approx. 1800 until 1820. It is an impressively large dial (15 inches by 21 ½ inches into the arch) with colourful ‘continent’ themed corners and the extra calibration for centre calendar. It also features a beautifully painted moon disk to the arch to track the lunar month. The falseplate has no stamped name which makes dating a little more difficult but logically would be between 1800 and 1807. The case is an amazing creation using the best flame mahogany veneers, contrasting wood panels, fine inlaid detailing and the biggest Corinthian pillar caps I’ve ever seen! While obviously seeking to impress, the whole still retains a pleasing harmony – a truly stunning piece of furniture. Nice to see that the hood and mask are the proper size for a 15” dial. This almost certainly shows that this is the original case, genuine 15 inch cases are few and far between – a 14 inch case may fit but would obscure parts of the dial. It is designed to be a ‘leaner’ so doesn’t have rear feet but leans against the wall at the back – generally a more stable arrangement. The clock is fully working and in very good condition throughout. The dial is excellent, there are a couple of small marks on the moon disk but nothing that detracts significantly. The hands are matching and original stamped brass, the calendar hand is contrasting blued steel. The 8 day striking movement has been cleaned and overhauled, gut lines look recent. The case has some age related marks and movement but is very sound with a beautiful colour and polish. The trunk door has a working lock, the hood lock is present but has no key. Dimensions are: height: 91 inches without finial (finial adds 4 inches), width 25 ½ inches max (top of hood), depth 11 ½ inches max (again top of hood). The clock is complete with pendulum, weights, winder and trunk door key. Delivery and setup to UK mainland within 300 miles of BA22 (Somerset) for £75. Viewing/ collection welcome.
