Item:153943317289Fine George III Longcase Clock. Ellicott London. Dead-Beat. Flame Mahogany 5 plrThe name of Ellicott needs little introduction when it comes to makers of high quality 18c London clocks. Simply one of the most famous and prestigious clockmakers.Videos here: https://youtu.be/p-cdB-GfAI https://youtu.be/saOAwVc3xX8https://youtu.be/qpPVcNOZw2IThis clock dates to the years between 1760 and 1770 and was a product of the partnership between the highly regarded John Ellicott (1706-1772) and his son, Edward, who went on to become Master of the Clockmakers Company in 1834.This is a very handsome clock of top quality as would be expected from this maker. It is in typical London style of the period with silvered brass dial and ‘pagoda’ case in highly figured ‘flame’ mahogany. The 5-pillar movement is very finely made and features a ‘dead-beat’ escapement for enhanced accuracy. It also has a ‘long’ pendulum crutch characteristic of this maker. The dial is of typical London style with ‘strike/ silent’ lever in the arch, subsidiary seconds and inset date. The finely cut hands are original blued steel. The case is tall and elegant with full bell pagoda hood. In addition to the front and side sound frets, there are extra fretted panels above the arch, a beautiful feature which further emphasises the high quality nature of this clock. Interestingly the case is in three parts (base, trunk and hood) similar to Dutch clocks of the time I believe. The clock retains its original brass cased weights.Overall condition is very good. The dial is clean and bright, the movement has been serviced and runs well. The case has superb colour and a good polished patina, there are some minor signs of wood movement over the years but nothing that detracts from a very stylish piece of furniture.Dimensions are: height 100 inches, width 20 inches (max), depth 9 inches.Complete with brass faced pendulum, brass cased weights, winder and keys for trunk and hood.Delivery to England within 300 miles of BA22 (Somerset) for £75.
